About Shraga F. Biran—the Alon Group

Shraga Biran is primary shareholder in the Alon Group, a company operating in the real estate, energy and retail sectors. Its holdings include BSRE Point Wells, owner of the Point Wells site, its affiliate Blue Square Real Estate Ltd., and Paramount of Washington, the former owner of Point Wells.

Biran has played a pivotal role in the initiation and development of a range of dynamic residential communities neighborhoods and complex commercial real-estate projects. He is the founder and owner of one of Israel’s leading law firms, and as legal counsel to the development of Airport City near Tel Aviv, various industrial parks and countless other initiatives, Biran has helped to transform Israel’s skyline as well as her social and civic landscape.

For the last fifty years, Biran has represented critical cases in areas of political, social and civic rights. In the 1950s, Biran fought alongside his law firm partner, the late Advocate Shmuel Tamir, to reveal the truth about the abandonment of Jews to their fate during the Second World War.

Biran received his law degree from Hebrew University.

Biran is a regular contributor to Globes, Ha’aretz, The Jerusalem Post, and Yediot Ahronot, among other publications. Since publishing his first book, “In Tears Shall They Reap” in 2002, Biran has offered his social, economic and political ideas in both public and academic forums. It is these ideas that he has developed in his new book, “In Praise of Opportunism,” (Yediot Books, September 2007) – guiding principles cultivated over fifty years of work, research and thought.
